Las Vegas

Janet kindly dropped us off at the airport and then we hit the first snafu. Dad's suitcase was one pound over. Mine was 5 pounds under so we moved a jacket - problems solved. Don't look for any souvenirs though.

We arrived in Las Vegas, got the car and drove the length of the strip. In pictures (or maybe just the movies) it seems you always see one hotel at a time and it looks fantastic. In real life they are kind of on top of each other so the it is a jumbled mess. The fun part is all the walking paths - many above street level. We drove all the way downtown - a mid-sized city (nothing to write home about).

We checked in to our 14th floor room. There was a lovely view of the airport and, of course, the mountains in the distance. Because there are mountains in the distance in every direction. Notice the Sphinx on the left - that is at the entrance to the hotel.

Sadly, an hour nap was next up. Then we had a lovely dinner and the Criss Angel Show . Jeff, I must admit it looked pretty macabre and I was not sure what you had gotten me into but the show was great fun. It was a blend of magic and dance and drama and comedy. No pictures from that of course; if you take any you get escorted out of the theater.

We walked out after the show and looked at the lights. Then back to our room by 9:30pm (Pacific time!!!). Dad wanted the clock set for 5am so we could be on time for the 7:30am tour. We did take more pictures of Las Vegas in the early morning and in the afternoon. The picture at the left is of the Luxor taken in the morning while we were waiting for the car. (Yes, it was still dark and the people in the elevator were still up from the day before.)

This is a picture of the back of Excalibur. We boarded the bus tour there. Yep, it looks just this overdone.

And one last picture of Dad's favorite New York, New York:

Pretty much all of the iconic images smushed together. Notice the roller coaster behind the Statue of Liberty.

Sorry, Gramps, we walked through the casino but did not even put a quarter in a slot machine.
